I was newly laid off from my property management job of 12 years. I had never lost a job before and was devastated. I enjoyed my work, but in all honesty, I was burned out, angry, and in shock. Not in a good place at all.
Though it was a rough time personally, I knew this was an opportunity to re-evaluate what I wanted to do with my career. I had some great ideas for transitioning into a new field, but I struggled to sell myself in my resume and interviews.
Then, my severance ran out, and I needed to ramp up applying for jobs. I was stuck and feeling the pressure. I reached out and found Kristin’s help made all the difference.
Kristin’s coaching and questioning helped me to clarify what I wanted. She saw the bigger picture and how my accomplishments could transfer to a new field. I thought my old resume was pretty good, but when I got my new one from her, I was amazed! She created a new document for me that was modern, well-branded, and professionally formatted and worded to bridge the gap between where I had been and where I wanted to go.
This focus on the bigger picture, plus Kristin’s support and encouragement, made me feel more confident and hopeful. The first job I applied to with my new resume, I got an interview and was selected over 75 other applicants for the position. I began working with the Community Action Coalition as the Manager of Family Development and was proud to do something that made a difference in the community. My career had a purpose again.
Four years later, I had the opportunity to apply for a promotion. I returned to Kristin for help with my resume because I realized going up a level required me to focus more deeply on the complexity of my outcomes and achievements. The questions Kristin asked and insights she had produced another fantastic resume. Her interviewing coaching gave me a solid strategy for the interview.
And now, I am the Programs and Services Director for the agency. I’ve also referred my mother-in-law to Kristin for her resume (that’s how much I trust her!) and she also got hired right away with her new document.
I can’t say where I’d be without Kristin’s help. Her tools and resources helped me tremendously in making my initial transition into the nonprofit world — and then later to get a promotion. I love that my work allows me to contribute to a cause that is near and dear to my heart.
